Mumbai: Ratan Tata’s diamond portrait is up for sale after the Mumbai-based artist decided to give up the art piece for charitable purposes. The artist named Shailesh Acharekar shares his birthday with Ratan Tata on December 28. He wanted to give the diamond portrait to the late industrialist on her next birthday.

With the sad demise of Ratan Tata on October 9, the artist’s dream remained unfulfilled. The glittering creation was made with 12,000 small and big diamond pieces. “I had specially created this for Rata Tata Sir.

I was hoping to meet, greet and gift it to him personally on his next birthday. Due to his sad passing, my dream has remained unfulfilled..

.” said Acharekar, quoted by the news agency IANS. Acharekar came up with the idea of creating something special in honour of the living ‘gem’ Ratan Tata.

So, he decided to make a picture of him out of diamond pieces this year. He then took on the huge task of crafting the portrait using around 12,000 big and small diamonds of different types, set on a 3x4 feet matt blackboard (composite panel). It took Acharekar six months of hard work, including lots of effort and emotion, to complete the stunning diamond portrait.

He had high hopes of presenting it to Ratan Tata personally, as a tribute to his great contributions to the country.
