Rasheer Fleming scores 19 points to lead Saint Joseph’s past Villanova

Tough start continues for the Wildcats

PHILADELPHIA — Rasheer Fleming’s 19 points helped Saint Joseph’s defeat Villanova 83-76 on Tuesday night. Fleming also had five rebounds for the Hawks (2-1). Xzayvier Brown scored 18 points and added six rebounds and a career-high 13 assists.

Derek Simpson shot 5 for 10 (2 for 4 from 3-point range) and 4 of 4 from the free-throw line to finish with 16 points, while adding six rebounds. Eric Dixon led the Wildcats (2-2) in scoring, finishing with 24 points and nine rebounds. But he shot only 12 of 32 from the field, including 4 of 10 from 3-point range.



Jhamir Brickus added 22 points for Villanova. Wooga Poplar had 13 points, eight rebounds and three steals. Simpson scored 12 points in the first half and Saint Joseph’s went into halftime trailing 37-36.

The Hawks pulled off the victory after a 15-0 second-half run erased a four-point deficit and gave them the lead at 53-42 with 13:50 left in the half. Fleming scored 14 second-half points. La Salle 93, Cornell 77 PHILADELPHIA — Corey McKeithan’s 25 points helped La Salle defeat Cornell 93-77 on Tuesday night.

McKeithan shot 10 of 19 from the field, including 1 for 5 from 3-point range, and went 4 for 5 from the line for the Explorers (3-0). Demetrius Lilley added 16 points while going 5 of 9 from the floor, including 2 for 3 from 3-point range, and 4 for 4 from the line while he also had seven rebounds. Deuce Jones had 15 points and shot 5 for 11 (2 for 4 from 3-point range) and 3 of 6 from the free-throw line.

The Big Red (2-1) were led in scoring by AK Okereke, who finished with 15 points. Jacob Beccles added 13 points and Cooper Noard finished with 10 points. La Salle took the lead with 4:06 remaining in the first half and never looked back.

Lilley led his team in scoring with 11 points in the first half to help put them up 47-39 at the break. McKeithan scored 21 points in the second half..
