THUNDER BAY — The Ministry of Natural Resources has released details about a rare late-season wildfire in the Thunder Bay district. The fire was spotted last Thursday afternoon at a location about 40 kilometres west of Nipigon, near Cliff Lake. It had burned an area of about 20 hectares at that point, but the fire subsequently expanded to approximately 75 hectares.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. A ministry spokesperson said Monday it is still listed as not under control, but is not being actively suppressed as it does not pose an imminent risk to any significant resources..
