With the seventh and final round of the Ranji Trophy league-stage fixtures coming to an end on Sunday, the quarterfinals line-up for India’s premier domestic First-Class tournament was finalised. While Jammu & Kashmir, Vidarbha, Haryana and Saurashtra qualified as the top-ranked teams from their group, Mumbai, Gujarat, Kerala and Tamil Nadu advanced to the knockouts as the second-placed teams. The teams that finished on top of their group during the league stage will have home advantage in the quarterfinals.

Vidarbha emerged as the most dominant team in the league stage, accumulating 40 points by registering six outright wins in seven games in Group B. Jammu & Kashmir and Gujarat were the only two other teams that remained unbeaten in the league stage. While Jammu & Kashmir ended with 36 points, winning five games outright out of seven, Gujarat finished with 32 points, winning four of its seven matches.

This was only the third time, and the first in five years, that Jammu & Kashmir managed to seal a quarterfinal berth in the Ranji Trophy. Its spirited campaign included a famous win against defending champion Mumbai in the sixth round. Similarly, Kerala, too, qualified for the quarterfinals only for the third time in the tournament’s history and the first time in six years.
