Randeep Hooda, who starred alongside Chris Hemsworth in Netflix’s Extraction, recently opened up about being ignored by Bollywood despite his significant role in the Hollywood hit. Randeep Hooda made headlines when he became one of the few Bollywood actors to land a prominent role in a major Hollywood production. In Joe and Anthony Russo’s 2020 action-thriller Extraction, Hooda starred alongside Avengers actor Chris Hemsworth, playing a significant part with considerable screen time.

The Netflix original went on to become the platform’s most-watched film at the time. Yet, despite the global attention, Hooda says his contribution was met with silence from his own film industry back home. In a recent chat with Shubhankar Mishra, the Sarbjit actor opened up about the lack of recognition he received from the Hindi film industry for his performance in Extraction.

“I didn’t get any appreciation from Bollywood but people who watched Extraction lauded me. I had various fan moments," he shared. While his performance earned praise from international audiences and action directors down South, Hooda expressed disappointment at the lack of public support from his peers in Bollywood.

“When I worked with filmmakers in the Telugu cinema, many action directors had seen the film and wanted to emulate what we did. They even asked me how we pulled off certain sequences. That sense of respect is there," he noted.

“But nobody in Bollywood talked about it. Even for small roles in Hollywood films, actors get congratulated and promoted. That didn’t happen in my case.

" The actor candidly admitted that he lacks a strong PR presence, which might have contributed to the oversight. However, he believes the root cause goes deeper. “I feel people feel threatened," he said.

“I didn’t get appreciation from the film fraternity for any role—and at some point, I realised I don’t need it. I’m doing my work, trying to grow, and not competing with anyone. I appreciate myself.

" Despite the disappointment, Hooda remains grounded. “I don’t know why people didn’t appreciate me publicly. But I’m not sad about it," he added.

“When they meet me, they’re warm and friendly. They call me, but never speak about it publicly. I haven’t even received a major award for acting.

" While Extraction garnered mixed reviews from critics, it was undeniably a commercial success and marked a key moment in Hooda’s international career. The film also featured Golshifteh Farahani, Pankaj Tripathi, and David Harbour in pivotal roles..
