. Read More Randeep Hooda is riding high on the success of his latest release Jaat, where he shares the screen with Sunny Deol. But while things are going great now, the actor recently looked back on a moment in his career that left him a little puzzled—and a bit hurt.

Chatting with Shubhankar Mishra on his YouTube podcast, Randeep opened up about feeling sidelined during the promotions of Highway, the 2014 road drama that starred Alia Bhatt and won both hearts and rave reviews. While the film was a big step for Alia and earned Imtiaz Ali praise for his storytelling, Randeep, who played the key role of a villain, was nowhere to be seen during the promotional run. The actor said that it could have benefited his career and made things easier at the time.

But what really had him scratching his head was Ranbir Kapoor’s involvement. Yep, Ranbir, who wasn’t even in the film, showed up during the promotions—and Randeep had questions. Hooda said, “Maine bhi voh dekha aur mujhe bhi samajh nahi aaya Ranbir Kapoor ka iss picture se kya lena dena hai.

" But then, Randeep took the high road by adding, “Maybe that’s when their love story began, and if that moment brought them together, then I’m happy for them. I wish them all the best." The actor added, “Last ke 1-2 din shayad traction nahi pakad rahi thi, toh mujhe leke gaye the.

Shayad unki strategy shuru se thi ki Alia ke around karenge — waise bhi woh film female exploitation pe thi. Par jab film logon tak pohochhi, unko laga ki agar Mahabir Bhati nahi hota uss picture mein, toh picture waise nahi pakad paati." Ranbir, of course, was dating Alia back then, and the two went on to tie the knot in 2022.

So maybe the Highway promotions really were the start of something beautiful. Meanwhile, Randeep is clearly in a good place now—both professionally and personally. He was last seen in Swatantrya Veer Savarkar, where he played the role of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar.

Currently, he plays the dreaded Ranatunga, the main antagonist in Sunny Deol’s Jaat. Although the film received mixed reviews, Randeep’s layered performance struck a chord with fans, earning him praise across social media platforms..
