Bolton Ramblers have planned a scenic hike from Staffordshire to Derbyshire. The outing, scheduled for Saturday, April 5, offers three hiking options, all following the historic Limestone Way, each ending in the picturesque Derbyshire village of Thorpe. The first path, measuring 11 miles long, features an ascent of 1,500ft, tracing a route that starts just north of Rocester.
This path weaves through the charming village of Ellastone and traverses beautiful, rolling Staffordshire countryside. Walkers will meet the River Dove at Coldwall Bridge, constructed in 1726, and make a short ascent to the summit of Thorpe Cloud for panoramic views. The second route spans seven miles with an ascent of 1,164ft and will begin at Ellastone.
This path mirrors the longer, first option, with an optional ascent of Thorpe Cloud for those who wish to do so. The third proposed path offers a gentler experience over five miles, along clearer, smoother paths. The Bolton Ramblers have reminded everyone to dress appropriately and pack their own lunches.
