Excelsior CorrespondentJAMMU, Apr 27: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Executive Member, Raman Suri has called for immediate action from the administration to address the severe losses faced by farmers due to a series of fire incidents that destroyed 267 kanals of wheat crops in Bishnah, Miran Sahib and RS Pura on Friday.Expressing deep concern over the recurring incidents, Suri demanded prompt compensation for the affected farmers and the urgent deployment of additional fire tenders to prevent such tragedies in the future. On Friday, devastating fires ravaged agricultural fields across multiple villages, reducing standing wheat crops to ashes.

In Harsa Dabad and Naugran villages of Bishnah, approximately 200 kanals of wheat were destroyed. In the Pritam Nagar area of Harsa Dabad, flames engulfed 100 kanals of crops within minutes, despite frantic efforts by farmers to contain the blaze. Two fire engines arrived at the scene, but only after significant damage had already been done, he informed.

In Miran Sahib’s Findar village, standing crops were burnt to ashes due to a fire in the afternoon. Similarly, in the border village of Gharani in RS Pura, 16 kanals of wheat crops were destroyed due to a short circuit. In both Miran Sahib and RS Pura, local residents reported that fire brigade vehicles failed to arrive despite being informed, forcing villagers to battle the flames themselves with limited success, Suri said expressing his concern over lack of fire extinguishing arrangements on the site.

Raman Suri said, the destruction caused by these fires, often triggered by hanging electric wires, has left them in despair. The administration must act swiftly to assess the damage and provide adequate compensation to help these farmers recover.Suri highlighted the recurring nature of such incidents, pointing out that fires caused by electrical faults or other preventable factors occur almost every year without effective solutions.

He criticized the administration for ignoring longstanding demands to increase the number of fire tenders in these areas and ensure their timely deployment. “It is unacceptable that fire brigade vehicles fail to reach the affected areas despite repeated calls for help,” Suri stated. The post Raman seeks compensation for farmers, fire safety measures appeared first on Daily Excelsior.
