
LUCKNOW: The head priest of Ram temple in Ayodhya , Acharya Satyendra Das , was admitted to SGPGIMS Lucknow after he suffered a brain stroke late Sunday. In a statement on Monday, the institute said: “His condition is critical but vitals are stable. He is under observation.
” Das, 85, is being treated by neurologist Dr Prakash Chandra Pandey along with doctors from neurosurgery, emergency medicine and endocrinology departments, said the institute spokesman. Sources said the chief priest has a clot in the brain which affected his other organs. The condition got further complicated owing to a history of diabetes and blood pressure.
Das was the priest of the makeshift Ram temple on Dec 6, 1992 when the Babri Mosque was demolished. He belongs to the Nirvani Akhara . The longest serving head priest of the Ram temple took sanyas at the young age of 20.
He was also associated with various rituals of the Ram temple since the construction began. Das’ deputy Pradeep Das, said the temple administration was keeping a close eye on his condition. Das also took ill in Oct 2024 and was admitted to SGPGIMS.
