Ralph Joseph Acanto OBITUARY Ralph Joseph Acanto, 90, of South Windsor, beloved husband of the late Annette C. (Bernier) Acanto, died peacefully on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at Riverside Health Care. Ralph was born in Hartford, CT, on March 5, 1934.

A graduate of Bulkeley High School in 1952, he attended the CT State Technical Institute. Ralph enlisted in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Japan. Upon returning from the service, he went to work at the Phoenix Insurance Co.



, for 30 years, retiring as Director of Administration. He was a past member of the Putnam Phalanx, an honorary Captain of the 1st Company Governor’s Foot Guard, a member of the Advisory Board for the Taste of Hartford, July 4th River Festival & Downtown Transportation Committee. He was also a member of The American Institute of Plant Engineers, American Society for Industrial Security & Building Owners & Managers Association.

He was a past member of the Board of Directors of The Old State House, Building & Grounds Committee at the Old State House, and was active in the restoration of the building for it’s 200th anniversary in 1996. He was also a past member of the Building Committee of The Connecticut Historical Society, served on the board of the employees club at the Phoenix Ins. Co.

, was past board member and president of the Brookside Condo Assoc., and worked as a volunteer at the Tabor House, Old State House & at the Humane Society in their pet therapy program and vaccination clinic. Ralph also worked as a volunteer at the Hole in the Wall Camp in Ashford.

He enjoyed life and being involved & active in the community. He was always there for someone in need. He leaves his son, Steven Acanto and his family of South Windsor, and his sister, Connie Borman of Eagle, ID.

He was predeceased by his sister, Rosemarie Acanto. Service and inurnment at the Mount Saint Benedict Mausoleum will be private at the request of his family. Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home has care of the arrangements.
