INDIANA, USA — The last hours of 2024 are here, and for now we remain mild. Colder air is on the way and will arrive as we ring in the new year. Expect showers to begin overspreading the area after sunset.
Scattered showers will continue overnight, but temperatures will stay above freezing. Rain my be briefly heavy through sunrise. Scattered showers will continue into New Years Eve, but the heaviest rain will drift to northern Indiana for most of the day.
Temperatures will be mild (by December standards) with highs in the mid to upper 40s. By the evening, as the area of low pressure pulls away, temperatures will start to drop as north and northwest winds kick in. The rain may wrap up as a few snow flurries, but no accumulation is expected.
We will ring in the new year with temperatures in the mid 30s and blustery northwest winds. The first day of 2025 will be a significantly colder day than we've seen over the past several. Highs will be just above freezing, with mostly cloudy skies continuing.
Cold temperatures will continue for the remainder of the week The next precipitation maker looks to arrive after sunset on Thursday night, but should exit before sunrise on Friday morning. It is likely to bring a little very light snow from a weak "Alberta clipper." Less than an inch of snow is expected overnight.
