Robinson has fallen afoul of the NFL's Substances of Abuse Policy, as announced on Tuesday, and this is just another blow for the financially beleaguered Raiders. While the league regarded it as a violation, it did not specify the exact nature of the violation; but it is worth keeping in mind that Robinson was arrested for DUI in February.
NFL Suspends Raiders’ Janarius Robinson for Three Games This now ends Robinson's season, which is a pain for the player and the team as well. The announcement came a day after the Raiders lost to the Atlanta Falcons-they've now lost ten consecutive Monday Night Football games. With just a dismal record of 2-12, the Raiders have struggled this season due to play and injury.
He was picked by the Minnesota Vikings as a fourth-round drafted pick in the NFL Draft 2021, Janarius Robinson. His flawless college career later brought him to Florida State, where 105 tackles, eight sacks, and two forced fumbles attested to his talent-the kind that, unfortunately, has battled injuries and inconsistency in his young NFL career. Aside from having spent two seasons with the Vikings and a short time with the Philadelphia Eagles, Robinson ended up at the Raiders, where he eventually started getting extended playing time.
Last year, he made his debut against the Kansas City Chiefs, and in the following six games, he was able to gather eight tackles and one sack. This season, he has played in ten games, registering twelve tackles and half a sack. Though given the chance to get more time on the field, Robinson could not land a starting role on the Raiders' defense.
The training camp performance left coaches unimpressed and limited him even further. Robinson's suspension may add more agony to the already beleaguering injury issues facing the Raiders' defensive units; others out have already included such injuries to players like Maxx Crosby and Malcolm Koonce. Even with Robinson performing in a backup capacity, his role has become increasingly vital to the team's attempt at surviving a badly depleted defensive line.
Having lost Robinson for the remaining three games of the season, the defense is further reduced in depth for the under-pressure Raiders. They missed him badly this season as his contributions were quite marginal, but his phenomenal size and strength which gave him his recognition at Florida State would have seen him as an asset during this tough stretch. His earlier legal problems this year, as well as his continued inconsistency on the field, will not make it much easier for him to land a long-term role in the future. With only three games left in a disappointing season, the team must find ways to overcome their defensive shortcomings and end the season on a stronger note..
