The Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday (November 21) hit back at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for attacking Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the Adani bribery case. The BJP said that it was Gandhi's usual tactic to attack India and structures that defend the country. Gandhi alleged that PM Modi is behind Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani and is protecting him.
"Rahul may try to tarnish PM Modi's image but his credibility is so high that he just received highest civilian award in a foreign country," the BJP replied. The BJP added that the company will give clarification and defend itself. "Law will take its course," the party said.
Gandhi demanded that Adani be arrested in an alleged bribery case in the US. Gandhi accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of protecting him. The Opposition leader has also demanded the removal SEBI chief Madhabi Buch and also accused her of protecting Adani.
The US prosecutors have charged Gautam Adani and associates with participating in a scheme to pay over USD 250 million bribes to Indian officials in exchange for favourable terms for solar power contracts, the firm sold a 20-year green bond in the US-investment-grade market. In 2023, the ports-to-energy conglomerate had crapped a ₹20,000 crore Follow-on Public Offer (FPO) at its flagship firm, Adani Enterprises Ltd following damning allegations by US short-seller Hindenburg Research..
