The Bradford Family Learning Festival is set to inspire curiosity this month. Thousands of adults and children are expected to attend the series of events , which runs from Saturday, October 26, to Friday, November 1. The Bradford Council's Library Service and the Museums and Galleries Service, along with the National Science and Media Museum and other venues, will provide families with opportunities to learn new skills together while having fun.

Bradford Libraries will offer free performances of Heifer Productions' Wild and Windy Moors, for children aged 4 to 7 and 8 to 12, at Ilkley and Keighley Libraries on Wednesday, October 30. Libraries will also encourage curiosity at their story times with the picture book There's a Tiger in The Garden by Lizzy Stewart. Explore Learning will offer sessions in maths and English across the week at various libraries.

Author Deane Narayn-Lee will visit Wyke Library on Monday, October 28, at 10am, with the book The Loving Earth. Competition winning author Alexandra Rad, aged 11, will read from her picture book at an event in Idle Library on Tuesday, October 29, at 10am. Library events during the week are free, and can be booked via the appropriate library.

Bradford Museums and Galleries will host events at all the council museum sites. On Saturday, October 26, families can make their own beeswax candles as part of the Apple Day event at Cliffe Castle, or take part in a rag-rugging workshop at the Industrial Museum. Wednesday, October 30 will see a tinkering challenge take place, also at Bradford Industrial Museum, in which families will be challenged to make a bridge that can hold a toy vehicle.

A Halloween event programme comes to Bolling Hall on Thursday, October 31, including the case of the Cheeky Boggart and, in the evening, a series of Ghostly Tours for children aged 7 to 12 (for which booking is required). The week ends with the Listers Lanterns at Cartwright Hall, on Friday, November 1. The National Science and Media Museum are also bringing a selection of activities to Bradford as part of the City Sparks programme.

Other partners providing activities for the festival include the charity Saltaire Inspired, who will host the Winter Saltaire Makers Fair on October 26 and 27. Councillor Sarah Ferriby said: "This year we are hoping for record numbers taking part in the activities across the district at our libraries and in our museums."
