Race-by-race preview and tips for Coonabarabran on Sunday

Selections based on a soft track Race 1 - 1:25PM PURSEHOUSE COONABARABRAN AND COONA BAKERY COUNTRY BOOSTED MAIDEN SHOWCASE PLATE (900 METRES) 1. Best Defence has been placed in one of his five starts and hasn’t been disgraced in any of them. He resumed from a spell with a last start fifth at Moree and this looks a nice race for him to break through in.

Dangers: 10. Noterbel is a filly on debut and has had two trials leading into this. She’s finished third in each of those trials and only needs to run up to them to be considered a chance here.



8. Staffa is yet to be placed in nine starts but was just behind the placings in her latest three starts before being spelled and has had a strong recent trial. How to play it: Best Defence WIN.

Racing heads to Coonabarabran on Sunday. Credit: Fairfax Race 2 - 2:00PM BRETT BOWMAN RACING AND BREEDING SUPER MAIDEN HANDICAP (1200 METRES) 4.Wolf Club is resuming from a spell for a new stable and has shown talent with two placings from four starts.

He looked good in a trial leading into this. Dangers: 5. Poseidon’s Son is another that is resuming in this for a new stable having previously campaigned in Victoria.

He has also looked good in a recent trial. 6 Lightning Speed has had two starts and has run well in each of them. How to play it: Wolf Club WIN.

Race 3 - 2:35PM BARRONS TYRE AND MECHANICAL AND REGGIES HOTEL BARADINE CLASS 3 SHOWCASE HANDICAP (1600 METRES) 5. Wanda River has a good overall record and has been racing well leading into this event. He won at Tamworth four starts ago to make it two straight wins either side of a spell and has since been placed in his latest three starts.

Dangers: 2. Medinah has shown talent in his career and ran well in a Highway four starts ago. He ran third at Scone two starts ago before a last start eighth at Coonamble but can improve on that.

9. Felis was a winner at Forbes when last produced and a repeat of that would have him hard to hold out here. How to play it: Wanda River WIN.

Race 4 - 3:10PM BRAD EDWARDS AIRCONDITIONING SHOWCASE BENCHMARK 66 HANDICAP (1400 METRES) 3. Burraneer Buoy resumed from a spell with a Tamworth victory three starts ago and has since been close-up at Mudgee and Kempsey. His form is solid and he looks suited in this event.

Dangers: 2. Feirme Prince has won two of his last four starts with success at Dubbo and Scone. He was midfield at Coonamble at his latest start and can show up here on his best form.

4. Vis I Do was a winner at Armidale earlier in the year. His most recent three starts have been sound and a forward showing is expected.

How to play it: Burraneer Buoy WIN. Race 5 - 3:45PM COONABARABRAN BOWLING CLUB CLASS 1 SHOWCASE HANDICAP (1400 METRES) 1. Seven Mile Missile has had three starts since resuming from a spell for a new stable and has performed well in each of them with two seconds and a Narromine win.

Dangers: 10. Mrs Bull struggles to win but bobs up in the placings regularly and has minor claims. 11.

Da Noice ran well at Forbes when second last time out and has place prospects. 8. Obviously Good won well at Tamworth three starts ago.

How to play it: Seven Mile Missile WIN. Race 6 - 4:20PM EXPO CUP DAY SHOWCASE SPRINT (1100 METRES) 3. Jacenza is a handy sprinter at his best.

He hit the line well for a last start second at Coonamble and that followed a solid third at Tamworth. He’s drawn well in the inside gate here and should take plenty of holding out. Dangers: 2.

Castlebar Road ran well at Dubbo before scoring a last start win at Coonamble when accounting for Jacenza and he must be considered among the leading chances again. 1. Two Ya Got was down the track in a couple of city runs before a last start fourth at Port Macquarie.

He has a good winning record and is well worth including among the main chances. How to play it: Jacenza WIN. Race 7 - 4:55PM IMPERIAL HOTEL COONABARABRAN SHOWCASE CUP (1600 METRES) 5.

Dances With Hooves is a classy mare on her day and she was a Highway winner at Scone in May having run well in the ATC Oaks two starts before that. She’s had two runs back from the break for a sixth at Rosehill before a third at Newcastle last time out. The step up in distance is ideal and she gets her chance to shine.

Dangers: 9. Smart Shot scored a good win at Tamworth four starts ago then was placed in two runs at Muswellbrook and Scone before scoring another strong win at Coonamble last time out. This is a step up in class but he should run well.

1. Rhythm Is A Dancer was a strong winner at Tamworth two starts back then hit the line well when second at Port Macquarie at his latest start when beaten by a handy one in Agirlsbestfriend. How to play it: Dances With Hooves WIN.

Race 8 - 5:40PM MARC HAWKINS ELECTRICAL/EVANS EQUESTRIAN MAX HAWKINS MEMORIAL COUNTRY BOOSTED SHOWCASE CLASS 2 PLATE (1200 METRES) 11. Negation has been racing well in two runs back from a spell with a couple of third placings in each of those efforts. She’s drawn ideally in gate two and should get the run of the race with Ashley Morgan taking the ride.

Dangers: 2. Exonumia is resuming from a spell and was placed in his latest two Tamworth runs before the spell. He has had two trials in preparation and should run well fresh.

3. Flying Miracle was midfield at Tamworth when resuming and then showed improvement when a last start third at Armidale when hitting the line well. He can show up here with a repeat of that.

How to play it: Negation WIN. Best Bets: Race 3 (5) Wanda River; Race 7 (5) Dances With Hooves. Best Value: Race 2 (11) Magic Sorcerer.
