Qatar tribune QNA Doha Qatar Society of Ophthalmology (QSO) on Sunday officially launched the first national initiative of its kind in Qatar to provide comprehensive, specialised care for uveitis patients, under the title ‘Uveitis for All’. The initiative was launched in collaboration with the uveitis team at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) during the QSO’s inaugural symposium on uveitis under the auspices of the Qatar Doctors Association. QSO’s officials indicated that the initiative aims to enhance cooperation between healthcare providers in Qatar in the field of diagnosing and treating uveitis.
President of QSO and Senior Consultant in Ophthalmology at HMC, Dr Faisal Al Naqadan, said that the Uveitis for All initiative is building partnerships with regional and international institutions of excellence to implement the best methods of prevention, diagnosis, treatment and awareness. The initiative also serves as a basis for joint research, clinical training, and extended awareness campaigns. Speaking to reporters during the national initiative launch symposium, he noted that the Uveitis for All initiative is not just a medical project, but rather represents a strategic framework that reflects national priorities in providing advanced specialised care and transitioning from traditional treatment models to an integrated community approach that enhances patient support throughout the disease’s stages.
Vice-President of QSO and Head of Ophthalmology Department at Al Wakra Hospital Zamzam Al Baker said that the national initiative is working to develop modern strategies and comprehensive treatment guidelines that ensure the continued provision of high-quality healthcare services to patients, in line with global developments and standards. The initiative focuses on national partnerships that include HMC, the Ministry of Public Health, the Primary Health Care Corporation, Sidra Medicine, Qatar Charity, Qatar Red Crescent Society, and private sector ophthalmology providers to ensure comprehensive and equitable access to ophthalmic services. The QSO inaugural scientific symposium brought together a host of experts from Qatar and abroad, who discussed the importance of specialized research in the field of uveitis and reviewed the best methods for diagnosing and treating the disease.
