Qatar tribune QNA Doha The Qatar Society of Ophthalmology (QSO) has announced the launch of a national health initiative in collaboration with the uveitis team at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC). The drive aims to bolster specialised care in the diagnosis and treatment of uveitis, under the theme of ‘Uveitis for All’. The official launch of the initiative is set to take place during the QSO’s inaugural symposium on uveitis on Sunday.

The event is a prominent scientific assembly aimed at advancing care and research pertaining to this complex inflammatory condition, which poses a dire threat to vision if not diagnosed and managed early and with precision. The initiative enjoys a broad-based backing from the HMC’s ophthalmology team, in addition to multidisciplinary support from infectious disease specialists, endocrinologists, internists, and other relevant entities. These teams perform a pivotal role in steering this nationally led project, which is spearheaded by an exceptional cadre of ophthalmologists in the State of Qatar.

Organised by QSO, under the auspices of the Qatar Doctors Association, the symposium will feature a keynote address by Chair of the International Uveitis Study Group, Prof Vishali Gupta, one of the world’s top-rung experts in the field. In addition, the event convenes a host of specialists in infectious diseases and rheumatology, alongside senior healthcare leaders, to deliberate on the pressing need for standardized, accessible, and evidence-based care for uveitis patients in Qatar. Speaking to Qatar News Agency (QNA), President of QSO and Senior Consultant in Ophthalmology at HMC, Dr Faisal Saud Al Naqadan, said the initiative primarily intends to close existing gaps in healthcare provision, embrace cutting-edge approaches to diagnosis and treatment, and foster strategic collaboration with key humanitarian and regulatory bodies, including HMC, the Ministry of Public Health, and the Primary Health Care Corporation.

This is in addition to eye care providers in the private sector and other relevant institutions such as Qatar Charity and the Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS), so as to ensure the provision of comprehensive and accessible eye health services for all patients. The initiative is the onset of future initiatives that are poised to handle other complex and critical clinical cases that require effectively coordinated multidisciplinary healthcare, Dr Al Naqadan highlighted. He indicated that the event is crucial to shed light on the latest advancements in the field of ophthalmology, particularly in the diagnosis and treatment of uveitis, where the symposium is poised to mark a tangible shift in the future of eye care in the State of Qatar.
