Foreign Affairs Minister Lenora Qereqeretabua said despite conflicts in many regions, it was not known that many women leaders within conflict areas are communicating with one another which shows the support and the enabling nature of women in the Pacific. Present at the 2024 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Apia, Samoa for the women’s forum, Ms Qereqeretabua said during one of her panel discussions at the forum, a lot of challenges women across the Commonwealth face are similar and that women should be encouraged to enable each other into leadership positions. “Women leaders in conflict areas talking with one another is encouraging because it means that whatever the differences within a nation and another, it’s good that women can be talking to other women from a nation that their nation is in conflict with,” said Ms Qereqeretabua.

“As enablers, enabling younger women to come into the space of leadership, that’s really encouraging. “What we can learn from each other is how different women in different sectors of the community are enabling the conversation to help other women to take up space that older women may want to relinquish to younger women. “It’s good to know that women can be talking to women from a nation that their nation is in conflict with.
