Qatar tribune QNA Port Sudan Minister of State for International Cooperation HE Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad, reaffirmed Qatar’s unwavering commitment to continue supporting the brotherly people of Sudan during their difficult times. She expressed deep concern over the deteriorating humanitarian, economic, and social conditions in Sudan. In a speech delivered during her visit to the city of Port Sudan, the minister called on all parties to the conflict to prioritise national interests, implement a ceasefire, facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid, protect civilians and civilian infrastructure, and engage seriously in reconciliation efforts.
She emphasised that these steps are essential to ensuring peace, preserving Sudan’s unity, and redirecting resources towards stability and development. She stated that the purpose of her visit to the Republic of Sudan was to closely assess the humanitarian situation facing the population and to work towards addressing their urgent needs. This comes in light of the catastrophic impact of the ongoing conflict, which has led to the collapse of critical services, including education, healthcare, and infrastructure, as well as the mass displacement of people, the majority of whom are women and children.
The minister acknowledged the significant contributions made by international partners in supporting the Sudanese people, especially UN agencies, humanitarian and relief organisations, donors, and bilateral and charitable funds, all of whom play a vital role in alleviating the suffering of the affected population. She called on the international community to step up its support by providing urgent assistance and sufficient funding for humanitarian response efforts in Sudan. Al Misnad also highlighted Qatar’s commitment to humanitarian relief, citing its co-sponsorship of the High-Level Pledging Conference to support the humanitarian response for Sudan and the region in 2023, the launch of an air bridge to deliver aid, and the evacuation of Sudanese residents from Qatar.
Qatari humanitarian organisations continue to provide essential support and implement projects across various sectors to mitigate the negative effects of the conflict. She announced that $10 million will be allocated to the Women in Conflict Zones Initiative to support and empower our sisters in Sudan socially and psychologically. Al Misnad emphasized that these efforts reflect the State of Qatar’s steadfast commitment to providing relief, humanitarian, and development assistance.
She also stressed the importance of enhancing cooperation, coordination, and joint action with all international, regional, and local partners, led by the United Nations, to help alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people and achieve peace and stability in Sudan. Copy 11/04/2025 10.
