Thiruvananthapuram: Hardly two weeks after joining the Kerala unit of the All India Trinamool Congress, Nilambur’s ex-MLA P.V. Anvar is under fire from local party functionaries, who have approached the party’s central leadership against him.
Speaking to ThePrint, C.G. Unny, the Kerala Pradesh Trinamool Congress Committee’s president, said that Anvar has not yet spoken or coordinated with the TMC members in the state but has been making unanimous decisions for the party.
“He considers TMC a temporary shelter until he enters the UDF (the Congress-led United Democratic Front). But we want to sustain the party here,” Unny said. He said that the TMC’s existing members have informed the central leadership about their issues with Anvar through an email and will send the official letter tomorrow to TMC leaders Abhishek Banerjee, Derek O’Brien and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
ThePrint contacted Derek O’Brien, Abhishek Banerjee and P.V. Anvar via calls and messages but received no response.
The report will be updated as and when they respond. On 10 January this year, Anvar, the former Left Democratic Front (LDF)-backed Independent MLA, met TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee in Kolkata and was appointed the party coordinator in Kerala, after which, he resigned as Nilambur MLA on 13 January. Days before joining the TMC, he had merged his Democratic Movement of Kerala (DMK) with the TMC.
He had launched the DMK in October last year after breaking away from the ruling LDF. Previously, Anvar was with the Congress. Anvar fell out with the LDF last year after launching an attack against former ADGP Ajith Kumar and CM Pinarayi Vijayan’s political secretary P.
Sasi, alleging corruption and tie-ups with the Sangh Parivar. Following this open war, Anvar tried to link up with the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in Tamil Nadu and the UDF before eventually joining the TMC. The Congress leadership did not welcome Anvar openly, it is learnt.
Anvar, however, said his decision to join the TMC was taken as he, like Mamata Banerjee, aspires to fight the fascist Left. He further said that he or the TMC would not contest the upcoming Nilambur by-election but would support the Congress, sparking rumours that he planned to tie up with the Congress later. Last week, Anvar held a TMC leadership meeting for eight northern Kerala districts in Manjeri in the Malappuram district.
However, Unny alleged that the meeting held a week ago by Anvar only saw the participation of his business partners and DMK members. Though launched in Kerala in 2009, the TMC does not have an organisational structure in the state. The party that contested five seats in Kerala in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls got less than 5,000 votes in that election.
Unny said leaders, including him, have created an ad hoc committee in Kerala because the central leadership was keen on launching full-fledged activities in the state only if an ex-MP or -MLA joined the party. According to Unny, TMC has over 300 existing members across 14 districts in Kerala, besides the 51-member ad hoc committee. On the disagreements about Anvar, Hamza Nettookudy, a member of the TMC unit, said the former MLA has been making party decisions without consulting with any members.
“I tried reaching out to him many times. Most of the time, he is not even reachable. It looks like he is not interested in running the party,” Hamsa said.
Hamza said the party will organise a meeting next week in Ernakulam to decide its next course of action. “We will wait for the party’s central leaders to decide and correct him. Otherwise, it would lead to an open rebellion,” he said.

The Mamata Banerjee administration in Bengal is the one actively engaged in issuing fake documents (Driving License, Ration card, Aadhar) to all illegal immigrants from Bangladesh. They are then enrolled as voters and the Election Commission has no clue as all the required documents are issued by the state govt and therefore, are considered authentic. Via this modus operandi, millions of illegal immigrants from Bangladesh have gained Indian citizenship over the last 14 years of Mamata’s rule in Bengal.
Unfortunately, the Union govt is not interested in carrying out a Census and therefore we do not know the exact numbers. Save my name, email, and website in this browser for the next time I comment. Δ document.

PV Anvar ruffles feathers 2 weeks into Kerala TMC coordinator role. Party unit goes running to Mamata
On 10 January, Anvar was appointed the party coordinator in Kerala. His appointment came after he parted ways with the LDF and could not make any headway in joining the DMK or UDF.
