LUDHIANA: A 35-year-old woman was stabbed with scissors at her home in the Prem Vihar area of Tibba on Friday. The attack was carried out by her husband's former worker, who had been dismissed two years ago after being caught stealing money from their flour mill. When the woman screamed, her 13-year-old son rushed to help, but the assailant also attacked him.
Both were taken to the hospital. The motive behind the attack is still unclear. The family and police are unsure whether the attack was due to revenge over the loss of the job or another issue.
The woman, identified as Dimple Nanda, suffered injuries to her head and left arm, while her son, Danish Nanda , sustained minor injuries. Dimple’s husband, Vaneet Nanda , owns a flour mill in Tibba. Based on Dimple’s statement, the Tibba police filed an FIR against the accused, Niranjan , a resident of Kartar Nagar.
ASI Baljeet Singh, the investigating officer, explained that the woman and her children were at home while her husband was at work. Niranjan rang the doorbell, claiming he was sent by Vaneet to fetch a mobile charger. Trusting him, Dimple turned to get the charger when Niranjan followed her into the house and attacked her with scissors.
Despite her efforts to defend herself, she was injured. Her son, Danish, tried to intervene but was also attacked. Niranjan fled the scene, and the victims were rushed to the hospital by Vaneet.
Niranjan had worked at Vaneet’s flour mill for years before being fired after being caught stealing money. According to the victim’s family, Niranjan had not contacted them during the two years since his dismissal. His sudden return on Friday led to the crime.
The police have filed an FIR under sections 333 (house trespass with intent to cause harm) and 109 (attempted murder) of the Indian Penal Code. They are conducting raids to arrest the accused..
