LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday met with SOS Children’s Villages International President Dereje Wordofa to explore avenues for expanding bilateral cooperation in child protection, education, and the holistic development of orphans and vulnerable children across the province. During the meeting, held at the Chief Minister’s Office, both sides agreed to strengthen the SOS model in Punjab, recognizing it as a cornerstone for child welfare reforms being introduced under the provincial government’s new vision. “Reforms in child care are underway, and the collaborative role of SOS Villages will be vital in this mission,” said CM Maryam Nawaz.
She lauded the social contributions of SOS Villages, describing them as a beacon of hope and support for helpless and abandoned children. The chief minister commended SOS Villages for offering not just shelter but also quality education through SOS Schools and pathways to independence via Youth Homes. “The state is responsible for the care and development of every child.
The Punjab government is fulfilling this responsibility with the spirit and compassion of a mother,” she remarked. “It is heartening to see that in SOS Villages, these children are not only safe under a secure roof but are also receiving education that empowers them.” President Dereje Wordofa expressed appreciation for the chief minister’s commitment to social service and her child-centric policy framework.
“Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s vision and policies are a message of hope for children from all walks of life,” he said. “Her leadership reflects deep compassion and a sincere desire to create a better future for every child.” The meeting also discussed future plans for expanding SOS initiatives in Punjab, including potential public-private partnerships, increased support for Youth Development Programs, and the integration of mental health and psychological services into child care systems.
The chief minister reiterated her government’s resolve to not only protect the rights of orphans and vulnerable children but also to empower them to become confident, educated, and contributing members of society.
