LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has appreciated the Wildlife Department and the district administration along with a police team for conducting a joint operation in South Punjab to protect wildlife and rare birds.

Punjab’s Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb also paid tribute to the raiding team, and said, “We pay tribute to the entire team who bravely implemented the law despite fierce resistance.

” She added,”Zero tolerance policy is being implemented on wildlife protection.” She highlighted,”On Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s direction, illegal wildlife markets are being eliminated from all over Punjab.” She appealed to the citizens to immediately report illegal wildlife activity on 1107.



Under Punjab Wildlife Act Amendment 2025, illegal wildlife business is a non-bailable offense punishable by 7 years in prison and a fine of Rs 5 million. Under the new law, raids were conducted on illegal wildlife Godri Bird Market and Pigeon Market Multan under the leadership of Director General Wildlife Department Mudassar Riaz Malik, in which hundreds of rare animals and birds were recovered. Birds recovered from Godri Market include parrots, chakors, peacocks and pheasants.

Eight trucks full of birds and wild animals were also taken into custody in the Pigeon Market. Police retaliated to the torture and firing on the raiding team by the mafia involved in illegal wildlife business. They arrested eight accused who put up armed resistance and sealed more than 40 shops.

Attempted murder case has been registered against other unknown accused who opened fire in Godri Market, while raids are underway for their arrest.
