1 2 3 Pune: SpiceJet started a fight to Varanasi from Pune in the summer schedule from March 30. Except this flight, the Pune airport saw no other addition. The flight would operate six days a week, except Saturdays, at 12.

30am from Pune. A senior official at the Pune airport said out of 109 available slots, 104 were taken by the airlines. Only one flight to Varanasi, a new domestic destination, has been added to the schedule.

"Hopefully, airlines would take available slots as the schedule progresses," an official said, adding that presently no new international flight was included in the schedule. "If all the slots were taken up by the airline, the total flight movements would reach 218." On Sunday, the airport recorded a total of 204 flight movements (102 departures and 102 arrivals).

"There was an increase in the number of flyers since the new building of the airport became functional from mid-last year. We were looking towards proper management now," the official said. Pune airport director Santosh Dhoke said, "Under the new schedule, the Pune airport continued to strengthen its domestic network with direct connections to 34 destinations across India.

On the international front, the airport remains well connected by offering direct flights to Singapore, Dubai and Bangkok." Congestion has already been a consistent issue at the airport, especially during arrivals. Flyers have frequently criticised the cab pick-up system at the AeroMall.

Moreover, the summer schedule saw a 5.5% increase in weekly flights across the country compared to last year. The DGCA said Indian carriers would operate 25,610 weekly flights from 129 airports between March 30 and Oct 25, compared to 24,257 weekly departures last year.
