Pune RTO sees surge in high-end car registrations

Pune: The Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) registered 1,360 high-end cars this year, highest in three years and 21% more as compared to the past year. A total of 1,360 cars, priced between Rs 60 lakh and over Rs 9 crore, were registered in 2024 as compared to 1,125 registrations of such vehicles in the past year and 740 in 2022. "The highest price of a car registered this year stood at Rs 9.

32 crore. In the past three years, there haven't been any cars this costly registered with us," an RTO official said. In 2021, barely 577 high-end cars were registered with the Pune RTO , officials said.



"The number of cars above Rs 1 crore stood at around 424 this year, the highest again in the last three years. In 2023, the same figure stood at 324, and the highest-priced car registered was Rs 8.08 crore," the official said.

A high-end vehicle dealer told TOI that the growth in the luxury car market in the country was over 35%, and the sales touched almost 39,000 units in the last calendar year. "There are many well-paid young professionals who don't hesitate when it comes to spending on high-priced products, be it cars or anything else. Pune has been a big market for high-end cars.
