Pune records season’s hottest day at 41.4°C, max March temperature for city in over 70 years

Pune: Wednesday turned out to be the city's hottest day of the season so far with the maximum temperature in Lohegaon reaching a scorching 41.4°C, a departure of 4.7 degrees above normal.

India Meteorological Department (IMD) data showed that Koregaon Park recorded 40.8°C during the day and Shivajinagar 38.6°C.



Koregaon Park had recorded a 41.3° maximum temperature last week. Pune's all-time record for March is 42.

8°C, recorded on March 28, 1892. Also on Wednesday, the state for the first time this season recorded the 42°C mark in Akola. An expert from Vagaries of Weather Blog said: "Lohegaon's 41.

4°C was the highest in the city so far this summer. By March-end, Shivajinagar also may breach the 40°C-mark." A Met official said, "Intensity of the heat may reduce in the coming days, primarily because of the cloudy sky condition.
