Pune: Baramati Member of Parliament (MP) and working president of the NCP (SP) Supriya Sule on Monday expressed concern over the lack of strong first- and last-mile connectivity and missing provision of parking lots at Metro stations across the city. Sule said the Metro would not succeed and traffic on city roads would not reduce if feeder connectivity remained poor, adding that Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha Metro) and the civic bodies must come out with a comprehensive policy to boost the same. "This aspect needs to be a part of policy not only for upcoming Metro routes in Pune but also other cities.
I am planning to speak to the ministers concerned in Centre on this topic," Sule said, while speaking to the media after meeting Maha Metro officials. The MP added that there is a need for at least 5,000 buses to improve the city's public transport and Metro's last-mile connectivity. "We do not know why there is a delay in procuring buses.
Centre and state govts should take up this issue on priority. If govt can spend crores of rupees on Metro, there should not be a fund crunch for procurement of buses," she said..
