Pune logs its hottest day this season as mercury soars to 43°C in Lohegaon

Pune: The city continued to reel under intense heat as the maximum temperatures climbed further on Wednesday, with Lohegaon recording a scorching 43°C — the highest reading this season. Shivajinagar recorded 41.2°C — a significant 3.

2 degrees above normal and barely 0.1 degrees short of this season's highest reading. The temperature surge comes just a day after Tuesday's 40.



8°C, confirming meteorologists' forecast of a sustained hot spell across Maharashtra. Akola was the hottest spot in the state at 43.4°C.

"The northwesterly winds carrying warm air masses from heatwave affected regions such as Rajasthan and Gujarat have strengthened over Maharashtra, leading to this substantial rise in day temperatures. We expect the trend to continue, with the temperatures likely to remain elevated for the next few days as heatwave conditions persist in parts of northwestern India," he said. An expert from weather blog "Vagaries of Weather" said: "What's concerning is the consistency of these high temperatures, with readings above 40°C becoming common.

April records of daily day temperature are set to be broken in Shivajinagar.".
