Pune: Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday said agents and lobbies have emerged in various districts of Maharashtra, who attempt to interfere in govt's land acquisition for infrastructure projects. "The revenue department will have to break their nexus," the CM told revenue officials at a state-level workshop. The 100-day programme given by Mahayuti govt to all the departments would decide the path of development for the next five years, he said.
"The programme was crucial to showcase the thought process of govt for five years. The revenue department is the face of any govt. State's performance is evaluated on the basis of how its revenue department has performed, and therefore, the department has an important role to play.
" Underlining the importance of land acquisition in development, Fadnavis said while state govt has increased the compensation amount for owners, some irregularities are being observed during the process. "Some self-proclaimed land acquisition experts, agents and lobbies have emerged in various districts. They are trying to hijack the process.
We will have to break their nexus to save govt money." The CM further said the revenue department will have to ensure a faster acquisition of land because a delay will lead to cost escalation. "Therefore, all the collectors and divisional commissioners should take a monthly review of the process in their respective jurisdictions.
The department should make use of technology in carrying out valuation." Fadnavis urged the revenue officials to come out of their offices and hit the field for a better performance of the department. "There are some who keep sitting in their offices; that will have to be changed.
Unless senior officials go on field visits, they cannot resolve people's issues in an effective manner. When the seniors start field visits, it brings transparency and accountability in the department's work," the CM added..
