Another company on the ‘Stop Hiring Human’ bandwagon

Tobias Lutke, the Shopify CEO, in a new memo to his staff, has underscored the importance of AI in individual performances and group projects. One segment of his note went viral on the internet, which reads as follows. Before asking for more headcount and resources, teams must demonstrate why they cannot get what they want done using AI.

What would this area look like if autonomous AI agents were already part of the team? This question can lead to really fun discussions and projects. In the memo entitled “ Reflexive AI usage is now a baseline expectation at Shopify ,” Tobias stated that he uses AI agents and expects Shopify techies to tinker with AI. He remarked that “ using AI well is a skill that needs to be carefully learned by.

.. using it a lot.

” He continued, “ In a company growing 20-40% year over year, you must improve by at least that every year just to re-qualify. This goes for me as well as everyone else.” In order to juice the maximum from the available working hours in the day, Shopify’s multi-millionaire boss urged the employees to iterate AI as “ it’s a tool of all trades today .

” He suggested GSD Prototyping be dominated by AI. The Shopify CEO also directed using AI in the company's performance and peer reviews before advising the talent acquisition to cross-check if an AI can’t help with the specific task the team is looking to hire for. Meanwhile, one user asked if AI is allowed during Shopify interviews.

“ Has been for a long time ,” the Shopify boss remarked. I heard this internal memo of mine is being leaked right now, so here it is: pic.twitter.

People at the top are mediocre at best, ” jibed one AI scientist.

Another user quipped, “Maybe they could spend a few million on consultants to show them how good it is.” However, not everyone is skeptical about the Shopify AI memo. Many are endorsing it like gospel of AI.
