Jon Tester handedly beat Tim Sheehy at the debate, and it wasn't even particularly close. On public lands, on healthcare, on housing — generally, Jon just gave us another demonstration in how he's been such an effective advocate for Montana against wealthy, out-of-state interests. When Jon pointed out that Tim Sheehy served on a board, PERC, that advocated for privatizing public lands, Sheehy admirably, on this one issue, didn't try to deflect to something else — unfortunately, his response was to lie through his teeth that PERC didn't advocate for that.
Jon then also caught him in a bind by pointing out that if PERC was so good, Sheehy wouldn't have hid his leadership position there from his campaign materials and even digitally edited its logo off of a shirt he was wearing in an ad. Jon also schooled Tim on health care and housing — Tim barely had policies he advocated for on housing (he tried to talk about immigration, when Jon pointed out exactly what he had done on that and where Tim's positions would actually make our border less secure) or healthcare, and Jon made clear exactly how we should address those issues and what he had done on them. Jon made the clear case for reelecting him, and I'm excited and proud to cast my ballot for him this election season.
Sam Christensen, Helena.
