Rep. Bill Taylor, R-Aiken, said the Aiken County Transportation, or CTC, voted to allocate $3 million for the project. Blessing of the Hounds changes include different site, no invitation to public to attend following Helene damage The roundabout will be located where Wire, Cooks Bridge and Day roads come together.

“There is a serious safety issue when you have an angled road like Wire Road hitting Cooks Bridge Road and then you have another road, Day Road, that is offset from that,” Taylor said. “It’s a very dangerous intersection. People are rocking through there pretty fast.

There’s a lot of speed going on there.” Prior to the CTC’s funding decision, Taylor sent a letter Oct. 18 to the panel’s chairman, Johnny Beam, that asked for the committee to work with the South Carolina Department of Transportation, or SCDOT, to get the roundabout built sooner rather than later.

During that CTC meeting, I suggested they protect their investment by securing the plans so they could be used another time.

Now is that time.” Taylor is concerned that the area will become even more treacherous in the near future because of plans to build subdivisions nearby. Those new neighborhoods “will significantly increase the traffic currently being experienced,” Taylor said.

“That’s why it’s necessary to get this done.” Prime Steakhouse's founder has stepped away from ownership of popular Aiken restaurant Georgia-based Beazley Development Company is preparing to construct a residential community with 356 homes along Wire Road between Bradley Mill and Nobles Lake roads. AWB Real Estate LLC, a subsidiary of Augusta-based South Georgia Homes, is getting ready to develop Cooper Place, which will have 157 homes.

The site of that subdivision is south of Beaver Dam Road. There is no timetable yet for the construction of the roundabout. According to the Federal Highway Administration, “roundabouts are an effective option for managing speed and transitioning traffic from high-speed to low-speed environments.
