Ma Anand Sheela is a prominent public figure of the 80s who formerly assisted spiritual leader Acharya Rajneesh, AKA Osho. After the documentary Wild Wild Country was released on Netflix in 2018, Sheela piqued the interest of the filmmakers who wanted to make films based on her life.

Now, in a conversation with Pinkvilla, she revealed her preferred actress, between Alia Bhatt and Priyanka Chopra , who she would want to play her powerful character in the movie made based on her life. During the interaction, she revealed that filmmaker Shakun Batra, who directed movies like Kapoor & Sons and Gehraiyaan, was planning to make a commercial movie on her life. But it didn’t happen because they were unable to gather funds to back the project.



Responding to which Bollywood actress should play her part in the yet-to-be-made movie, Ma Anand Sheela stated that she would have chosen Alia Bhatt over Priyanka Chopra. But since they have no money now, she is uncertain about the future of the project. Sharing her thoughts on the rumours that say Priyanka Chopra Jonas was about to play her character in a movie, the 75-year-old revealed, “No, she announced she wanted to play the part of Sheela, but she had not asked me.

That was the problem, and I wasn’t happy. One should ask, ‘How do you feel about it? I am going public with this news, do you agree or accept it?’ But today, I can tell you, it doesn’t matter, Priyanka (Chopra) can also play my part." As for Alia, Sheela stated that she hasn’t watched any Bollywood movies.

However, she did see a scene or two from one of Alia’s films, and that’s when she told her sister that the National Award-winning actress was the best fit to play her role. Sheela revealed how she looked like Alia in her earlier days. Upon realising this, Sheela quickly called filmmaker Batra and highlighted this aspect.

Her sister also nodded at the fact, and she concluded that the Gangubai Kathiawadi actress should be playing her role. Shakun Batra made a documentary film titled Searching for Sheela in 2021. The Netflix movie, backed by Karan Johar’s Dharmatic Entertainment, chronicled the life of Ma Anand Sheela.
