Three hundred and seventy nine students attending a private training and production school for free have graduated with certificates. The Talea Training and Production school has started with the mission to provide production training to the unemployed youths in the streets and community who have no education qualifications to seek employment. The school had presented certificates of light vehicle driving, semi-trailer drivers and excavator operators to the students last Friday.
School director Paul Aiba said the school was started to train youths to invent food warmers and sell on the street to earn their living but it has since transformed to a production training school. “It’s free education. Students don’t pay any fees, (and) the school provides everything.
It is a tough task but God did it for us.” Mr Aiba said the school has hired excavators for K800 an hour and K800 for semi-trailer and K700 light vehicles for students practical and they also pay for their teachers and IT equipment. “ It is a tough task but we don’t worry about government assistance because God provides for us,” he said.
He thanked the Morobe education administration for pledging a K15,000 commitment and Lord Mayor James Khay for funding a K5000 to assist them. Morobe Education representative Ali Hegupe congratulated the school for hosting their first graduation and implementing the Morobe education department’s Zero Drop-out Policy to accommodate unfortunate youths. He said the provincial education administration commitment for a K15,000 stills stands as they are waiting for accounts to close.
“There are processes to follow so as soon as all the requirements are inspected and met, all the teachers will be paid by the Education Department and the school will receive TFF fundings,” He said Morobe still lacks a TVET inspector but as soon as they have one, inspections will be done and submitted to the National Education Board and Morobe PEB will make the endorsement..
