Pune: Thirteen passengers of a private bus suffered injuries after it crashed into an iron-laden truck and went off the Pune-Solapur highway in Indapur, about 120km from the city, on Sunday night. The injured bus passengers are undergoing treatment at Indapur sub-district hospital. The driver of the truck has lodged a complaint with the police.

The Indapur police have registered a case against the bus driver under sections 281 (rash driving on public way), 125 (a) and (b) [both referring to acts endangering life or personal safety of others] and 324 (4) [mischief causing damage of more than Rs20,000] of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) besides, Section 184 (dangerous driving) of the Motor Vehicles Act. An officer from the Indapur police said the Pune-bound bus had started from Sangola in Solapur district. The truck carrying iron rods was going from Tamil Nadu to Baramati.

"The accident occurred around 7pm on Sunday when the bus driver attempted to overtake the truck from the left side." The truck driver stated in his complaint that he saw in the rear view mirror of his vehicle the bus brushing against the truck after crashing into it. "The truck driver told us that the bus crossed his vehicle and jumped the median on the highway.

It drove for some distance on the Solapur-bound corridor of the highway and went off the road. The bus stopped after falling into a trench," the officer said.' He said the truck driver also lost control of the wheel and his vehicle stopped on the median.

The iron rods in the truck spread on the road after the accident, he said. The officer said the police went to the spot after the accident and took the injured people to the hospital. "Their injuries are not severe," he said.
