A NEWTOWN St Boswells man who admitted possessing indecent images of children has been warned he faces a custodial sentence. Thirty-seven-year-old Neil Murray had the pornographic pictures of youngsters aged between eight and 10 on two mobile phones retrieved by police from his home in Whitefield Crescent on February 27. There were five accessible images and 18 inaccessible category C images – the least serious category.

Defence lawyer Stephanie Clinkscale told Jedburgh Sheriff Court that, while it was a low number of images, background reports would be required. Sheriff Peter Paterson said that a custodial sentence was likely. Sentence was deferred until January 20 for the production of a Criminal Justice Social Work Report and a Restriction of Liberty Order assessment.

He was also made subject to the notification requirements of the Sexual Offences Act..
