The Prince of Wales was spotted at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday night for Villa’s trip to PSG for the first leg of their quarter-final tie. The next in line to the throne had predicted a 2-1 victory for Unai Emery’s side in the build-up and admitted to wearing his “lucky clothes” beforehand.

He claimed it was a “big deal” for him to allow George to experience such an occasion, and the pair were seen punching the air and hugging when Morgan Rogers handed Villa a first-half lead. But they watched on as PSG launched a comeback, scoring three goals to leave Villa with a mountain to climb in the second leg at Villa Park. Prince William was asked by TNT Sports pundit Rio Ferdinand before the game: “I heard you came with a few mates, is it a lads tour this one?” The royal, who was in the crowd for Villa’s home games against Bayern Munich and Monaco back in January, replied: “Well, I’ve got my son here as well so I’m on best behaviour but I thought it’s been 43 years since anything like this has happened, in my generation as a Villa fan.

“I wanted George to experience a night out away from home in a big European competition. I hope it’s not 43 years until the next time it happens but I think those memories are really important to create and bringing him along is a big deal for me.” When asked by Ferdinand if he forced his son to support Villa, the prince made it clear that he will let George support who he wants, even if it’s another team.

“I’m genuinely open to whoever they support,” he said. “I’m a bit biased but also they come to Villa games so they’re probably going to support Villa. I’ve left the other two at home tonight so we’ll wait and see who they support.

” The prince was seen hugging some of Villa's players, including Marco Asensio and England international Marcus Rashford as they came out of the dressing room. He also spoke about Villa's tactics and the "intensity" of PSG's press, as well as how they would put pressure on the Villa defence. The way he just dissected that there, I'm going to nick that for later on." William began supporting Villa as a schoolboy in Berkshire, opting for a team which was different from the norm. He told the BBC in 2015: "A long time ago at school I got into football big time.

I was looking around for clubs. “All my friends at school were either Man United fans or Chelsea fans and I didn't want to follow the run of the mill teams. I wanted to have a team that was more mid-table that could give me more emotional rollercoaster moments.

" He was born just 26 days after Villa won the European Cup final against a star-studded Bayern Munich on 26 May, 1982. Story Saved You can find this story in My Bookmarks. Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.
