Vadodara: Babar Pathan , the prime accused arrested by city police for the murder of Tapan Parmar , the son of a former BJP councillor, is accused of a string of offences including bootlegging. Pathan (32), who allegedly stabbed Tapan to death, is accused of 25 offences in the city and district. He was even detained under the Prevention of Anti-Social Activities Act (PASA) and externed from the city.
Pathan faces charges such as theft, robbery, rioting, assault, criminal intimidation, possession of illegal firearms and bootlegging. Police are also probing his involvement with other criminals. Another person accused in the murder case , Shakil Sheikh (30), has been named in a bootlegging case filed at Varnama police station in the jurisdiction of Vadodara rural police.
The others arrested for the murder are Wasim Mansuri (38) and his wife Shabnam Mansuri, and Aijaz Sheikh (34). Police are looking for a couple of other people who could be involved in the murder. Babar, Wasim and Aijaz are named as accused in both the murder case at Raopura police station and the attempted murder case at Karelibaug police station.
ACP to probe allegations against cops An assistant commissioner of police (ACP) will investigate the allegations that the murder of Tapan Parmar took place in the presence of policemen on the campus of SSG Hospital. The victim's father, Ramesh Parmar, a former BJP councillor and member of the BJP SC morcha, alleged in media interviews that police personnel were present when Tapan was killed. Those accompanying Tapan made similar claims.
