By Maya Shavit A Pride flag at Sweet Cheeks Q was torn down on Marathon Monday , and now owner Tiffani Faison is asking the public’s help identifying the person responsible. Owner and chef Tiffani Faison posted on her Instagram on April 24 that a man entered the Fenway restaurant, spoke with patrons at a table, and then “ripped” a flag down before walking out of the restaurant. The man in question was wearing a yellow tipped hat and was in a group of about 12 people, according to the chef.
“We were all really, really shocked,” Faison told Boston.com. “We’ve been in business in this space for 14 years and nothing like that has ever happened.
” Faison said that her team has been in conversation with the Boston Police Department since the incident occurred on Marathon Monday. BPD confirmed that at about 3:43 p.m.
on Monday, April 21 officers responded to the area of 1381 Boylston St. An official report was filed on April 25. The chef asked her followers on Instagram to reach out if the person looks familiar or if there is further information, so her team can provide relevant information to BPD.
“We’ve had a lot of conversations, and some of the people on our team don’t think they’re from here,” said Faison. “As much as I hope that’s true, I don’t know if it matters. We’re a business that’s open to people whether they live here or not.
” Faison, a four-time James Beard nominee, owns restaurant group Big Heart Hospitality (Sweet Cheeks Q, Fool’s Errand, Dive Bar, Tenderoni’s Pizza, and Bubble Bath). She’s competed on “Top Chef” and “Tournament of Champions,” and served as a judge on “Chopped” and “Fire Master” cooking shows. Faison has also been an outspoken advocate for the LGBTQ+ community and gender inequities in the hospitality industry .
On Friday afternoon, Faison reposted to her Instagram Stories from Big Heart Hospitality’s culinary director Daniel Raia that the Pride flag was “back up” in the window. “It’s not an option for us to not be open about who we are as a queer-owned business,” said Faison. “If that bothers you so much, you don’t need to walk in the door.
