Puerto de Mogán has taken the top spot beating better-known destinations in the Canary Islands. The small fishing village topped the table with a score of 90 per cent when over a thousand Which? members were asked where they were most likely to recommend and their overall satisfaction. Each destination was ranked on eight different criteria including the quality of the beach, the scenery, food and drink, accommodation, and value for money.

Puerto de Mogán has a quaint marina and is dotted with white-washed houses. It also has a beautiful old town that tourists can explore.

Which? members called it "child-friendly" and "easygoing" with no shortage of places to eat as it has a "great choice of quality restaurants." Three different resorts all came in third place with a score of 75 per cent - Costa Adeje on Tenerife, Costa Teguise on Lanzarote , and Las Palmas on Gran Canaria.

These spots were highlighted for their accommodation, food and drink, and relaxed vibes. Roy Boland, Editor of Which? Travel said: "The Canaries are beloved by Brits for their all-year-round sun and while many thousands of us visit every year, our research suggests holidaymakers prefer the quieter resorts to the package holiday fly and flop hotspots." At the bottom of the table was the hugely popular resort of Playa del Inglés on Gran Canaria where Brits have been going for decades.

It seems that this is largely the reason why it received the lowest score of 61 per cent. Respondents suggested it has become a victim of its own success, with some criticising the resort as "too busy, too full of British tat and not relaxing." But, others claimed it always gives them a "good time" and that the locals and visitors are "very welcoming.

" Despite this, the large amount of British tourists visiting hotspots like Playa del Inglés is what sparked protests this year from locals who want a crackdown on mass tourism.
