Jon Jones showed his class yet again last weekend at UFC 309 when he dismantled Stipe Miocic. And in doing so, he became the first fighter in UFC history to have successfully defended his title in three different title reigns. ‘ Bones also has the most title defenses in the history of the organization with 17 to his name.
To put it into perspective, even the great Demetrious Johnson defended his belt 11 times in his UFC career. Jones is so far ahead of the competition that it isn’t even a comparison anymore. Following his UFC 309 performance, he posted a picture of the record he broke.
And as if to tease fans further, he joked, saying, There is not a fourth division for him to compete in yet but there’s a fourth title! Right now, fans are still confused about who he will fight next, and this statement just complicates things further. Dana White clearly stated that if he vacates the belt, Aspinall will become champion. So does this mean that ‘ Bones ‘ will go and fight Alex Pereira for the BMF title like had earlier suggested, then come back to challenge Aspinall, or will he just vacate the title and take on ‘Poatan’? The champ has everyone wrapped around his finger waiting for an official announcement.
Jones reveals why he wants Pereira next After over a decade of fighting the ‘next best’ fighter in his division, Jones has had enough. He has taken on every single challenge and challenger thrown at him in his career. But now, he wants to focus on building his legacy.
Even before his UFC 309 showdown, in a press conference , he explained why prefers a star like Poatan to a newcomer like Tom Aspinall. However, he is not opposed to the Aspinall fight if White offers him a big check . On the other hand, he has stated multiple reasons why he doesn’t want to fight the Brit, even calling him an ‘a**hole’ to prove his point.
Well, Jones has never been shy of his mind games. But despite the fluctuating tones from Jones, Aspinall believes deep down the champion wants to fight him because he wants to know if he can beat him..
