The debate will start at 8 p.m. Tuesday and is expected to last 90 minutes with two commercial breaks.

It will be moderated by ABC News "World News Tonight" anchor and managing editor David Muir and ABC News Live "Prime" anchor Linsey Davis. ABC News will carry the debate live on its broadcast network as well as its streaming platform ABC News Live, Disney+ and Hulu. Several networks have also agreed to carry the event live.

The debate is taking place at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia. Tuesday's debate might be the only one before the Nov. 5 election as no others are scheduled.

The candidates have never met in person. They have agreed to the following debate rules, according to ABC News: There will be no audience in the room. Microphones will be live only for the candidate whose turn it is to speak.

The mics will be muted when the other candidate is speaking. Only the moderators will be permitted to ask questions. The candidates will not be allowed to ask each other questions.

A coin flip was held virtually to determine the order of closing statements. Trump won the coin toss and will go last. Closing statements will be two minutes per candidate.

There are no opening statements. Each candidate will be allotted two minutes to answer each question with a two-minute rebuttal. An additional minute is allowed for a follow-up, clarification or response.

Candidates will stand behind podiums for the duration of the debate. No props or pre-written notes will be allowed on stage. Campaign staff may not interact with candidates during commercial breaks.

No topics or specific questions are being shared in advance. Up next: CBS News will host a vice presidential debate on Oct. 1 between Walz and Trump's running mate, Ohio Sen.
