THE president of one of the world’s leading IT providers has visited a Borders school to witness the appliance of technology in the classroom. It is now more than five years since Scottish Borders Council’s Inspire Learning Programme rolled out iPads to pupils in the region. The council took the decision to integrate digital learning into schools long before the Covid pandemic forced other local authorities to follow suit.
Since then, Inspire Learning has evolved and pupils are learning skills that will equip them for careers in the future, a world where technology, science and computing is engrained in almost every walk of life. Supporting the multi-award winning Inspire Learning team to deliver the programme is global IT and business consultancy CGI. In a visit to the Borders, Tara McGeehan, the president of CGI UK and Australia, took time out to visit Earlston High School to see the Inspire programme in action and how it is transforming pupils learning into career opportunities.
Ms McGeehan said: “I am delighted to see the hugely positive impact that Inspire Learning is bringing to education in the Scottish Borders. “The iPads and the associated tools and creative suites have become fully embedded in the heart of learning and teaching right across the region’s schools. “At Earlston High School, I saw first-hand how both pupils and teachers are fully engaged, both through the equity of access it brings to all curriculum subjects as well as the new opportunities to learn coding and programming – boosting the opportunities to pursue careers in technology, science and computing.
“Technology never stands still, so I look forward to CGI and Scottish Borders Council continuing the evolution of Inspire Learning to everyone’s benefit.”.
