Surat: A 41-year-old man, who owns a preschool, was arrested on Thursday for allegedly raping the 16-year-old daughter of his deceased friend multiple times over two years after forcing her to consume alcohol. The complaint filed with Adajan police states the accused raped the girl at her home. He would allegedly beat the victim if she resisted.
He was booked for rape under the Indian Penal Code and for offences under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act. The victim lived with her mother and stepfather in Adajan. The accused, who was her mother's friend, would frequently visit the house, whether her mother was present or not.
Her mother remarried after the girl's father died a few years ago. In June 2022, Parmar allegedly forced the girl to drink alcohol and tried to get physical with her. When she resisted, he allegedly beat her with a belt and raped her.
He allegedly raped her many times over the following two years after threatening her. The girl's stepfather sensed something untoward was happening in his absence and discussed it with her maternal uncle. Three days ago, the maternal uncle called the girl to his house and took her out.
After winning her trust, the uncle and his wife asked the girl about the man. The victim told them he got her intoxicated and raped her many times over the past two years. The uncle and aunt then advised her to file a police complaint.
Adajan police inspector P J Solanki said: "We arrested the accused after booking him under the relevant sections of the IPC and Pocso. We will summon the girl's mother also to find out whether she knew about the crime." The accused, who is a father of three children, owns a preschool operating from a bungalow in the Parvat Patiya area.
