Year No. 2 of the Ashley Ridge boys volleyball program brings new challenges. The Swamp Foxes only returned one starter from this past year’s inaugural team.

However, the team has nearly 20 players working to make some noise this season. “With us just starting with our matches, the boys are trying to learn the rotation and where they need to be,” Ashley Ridge coach Blair Steed said. “I’m still playing with the rotation.

We are getting there but still have a little way to go. We had two basketball players come out this season , but otherwise , we didn’t have much interest from athletes who participate in other sports.” Cody Brouwer is the team’s primary setter and team captain.

Briggs Boeser is the primary Libero but suffered an injury early this season , so Steed turned to Eric Beltran, a transfer student from Florida, for that position. Grant Riemer and Alijah Boull bring good athleticism, particularly at the net. Other team members include Jonathan Negron, Hunter Easley, Micah Roper, Nicholas Girau, Tanner Caster, Zach Brooks, Hayden Nunn, Gabriel Maute, Dylan Bethune, Beau Johnson, Christian Walcott, Louis Abarca and Harrison Garner.

“Cody is doing a great job and making sure everyone is in the right spot,” Steed said. “He is my coach out on the floor. Because we lack experience, there is a learning curve with this group , but I’m looking for players like Alijah and Grant to eventually really step up.

I tell them I want them to be better each day than they were the day before.” AR Golf The Ashley Ridge Girls Golf team won the 2024 Holy City Cup. The Swamp Foxes claimed the championship over 12 other teams.

Captain Avery Smith was the medalist with a 6-under par round. Four members of the team had top-10 individual scores. SHS Swimming The Summerville Swimming teams excelled during a meet with three other schools on Sept.

11. The Green Wave Boys scored 529 points to win their meet. Philip Simmons (298), Oceanside Collegiate Academy (173), and Charleston Charter Math and Science (143) trailed.

The Green Wave Girls tallied 376 points to finish as the runner-up for their meet. Oceanside (538) won the girls meet, with Charleston Charter (209) placing third and Philip Simmons (40) placing fourth. SHS Cross Country The Summerville Cross Country teams swept the Wolf Invitational hosted by Timberland on Sept.

12. During the girls’ meet, Kendall Griffith led Summerville with a 20:14 time to place third. Next in was Taylor Blackwelder, who was in eighth place at 20:22.

Also running Varsity were Isabella Bradley (21:50), Lacie Cinnamon (21:53), Lydia Slocum (21:54), Carolina Tolppa (22:28 PR) and Victoria Williams (22:43). David Greer led Summerville during the boys’ meet, finishing in 15:56 to nearly take top individual honors.
