The Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) has announced that it is expecting the delivery of 6,000 prepaid metres by the end of April, with distribution plans already underway. This update was shared by the company’s Regional Manager for the Jalingo office, Alhaji Aminu Aliyu, during a customer sensitisation forum organised jointly by YEDC and the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) in Jalingo on Tuesday.Aliyu disclosed that some of the metres had already begun to arrive and would be allocated across the four states under the company’s jurisdiction—Borno, Yobe, Adamawa and Taraba.

He noted that Taraba State is expected to receive over 1,000 of the prepaid metres once the full consignment is delivered. He clarified that only customers officially listed by the company would receive the devices, urging consumers to remain vigilant against illegal connections.Aliyu advised customers not to permit unauthorised users to tap electricity from their lines, warning that such practices distort the accurate calculation of electricity usage.

He explained that when multiple users draw power from the same connection without being accounted for, the cost of supply is unfairly distributed among legitimate consumers.Reaffirming YEDC’s commitment to customer satisfaction, he praised the Taraba State Government for its ongoing support of the company’s operations in the region. He also appealed to customers to prioritise prompt payment of their electricity bills, explaining that the funds collected are channelled back to service providers in the electricity value chain.

According to Aliyu, the entire sector functions in a continuous cycle, beginning from electricity generation, moving through transmission, and finally ending at distribution. Also speaking at the event, Mr Blessing Urang, Legal Officer at YEDC, described the electricity sector as the most stringently regulated industry in Nigeria.Urang said the company has established dedicated customer protection services aimed at safeguarding consumer rights.

He encouraged members of the public to report any complaints or issues to the customer care units for appropriate resolution. He further advised security personnel to apprehend anyone claiming to be a YEDC staff member who cannot present valid identification, in order to curb fraud and impersonation.Meanwhile, His Royal Highness, Abba Tukur, the Galadima of Muri, commended the company for recent improvements in electricity supply across Taraba State.

He also urged YEDC to consider introducing a credit system similar to those offered by mobile telecommunications providers, allowing customers to access electricity in advance of payment. The post Prepaid meters available for customers April ending — YEDC appeared first on Nigerian NewsDirect..
