Prep volleyball: Fort Madison picks up first win of the season

WYOMING -- The Fort Madison High School volleyball picked up its first win of the season, Downing Springville, 18-21, 21-18, 17-15 in the opening match of the Midland Tournament on Saturday.

WYOMING -- The Fort Madison High School volleyball picked up its first win of the season, Downing Springville, 18-21, 21-18, 17-15 in the opening match of the Midland Tournament on Saturday. The Bloodhounds ended the day 1-3, falling to Cascade, 21-11, 21-11, losing to Calamus-Wheatland in two sets and dropping a 21-11, 23-25, 15-4 match to Springville to end the day. Dayonna Davis had 20 kills, 26 digs and one block for the day.

Sydney McEntee had 16 kills and five blocks. Mara Smith had seven kills, 47 assists, 21 digs and one ace. Kenzie Huebner had 15 digs and Kylie Lumino had 19 digs.



"I am proud of the effort the team showed all day, and for the most part our offense stayed aggressive. There are still some things to work out, but I believe we are getting closer and closer to breaking out and playing to our full potential," Fort Madison coach Kelly Knustrom said. "With some kids out sick over the weekend, we had some kids fill in roles and I am also really pleased with the play off the bench.

Olivia Buckner filled in a defensive specialist spot and gave us a really aggressive serve from the line. Molly Schulte and Addison Dean stepped in to serve in key positions and Reilynn Turnbull jumped right in to help the defense when we struggled a bit." The Bloodhounds lost to Davis County and beat Oskaloosa in pool play. They went on to beat Mount Pleasant and Van Buren County before dropping the championship match in three sets to Davis County..
