By the narrowest of margins, Proctor was an upset victim at the hands of Crosby-Ironton in a Section 7AA volleyball quarterfinal on Friday night in Proctor. The Rangers, who had already won on the road at Mesabi East on Wednesday, fought point for point with the host Rails. Crosby-Ironton took the odd-numbered sets and Proctor the events, and in the fifth, it went to the Rangers 16-14.

In Section 7A, Ely’s defense of its section title continued without much resistance in a 3-0 (25-15, 25-8, 25-9) rout of Chisholm behind 15 kills by Lilli Rechichi and 10 from Audrey Kallberg. Ely will face South Ridge in the second of two semifinals on Wednesday after the Panthers downed Cromwell-Wright 3-1 (25-12, 22-25, 25-17, 25-15).
