
GIRLS PREP BASKETBALL Nitro 69, Greenbrier East 49 Class AAA No. 1 Greenbrier East shot under 35 percent from the floor and turned the ball over 16 times in a 69-49 road loss to No. 2 Nitro Friday night.
Brooklyn Canley led the Wildcats with 18 points. Natalie Smith added 16 and Karson Janes had 12. Kennedy Stewart had 14 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals for the Spartans, who lost for the first time this season.
Ava Workman had nine points, eight rebounds, five assists and two blocked shots. East (16-1) will host Independence Saturday at 7 p.m.
Nitro (11-3) will welcome Winfield the same day and time. Summers County 59, PikeView 50 Class AA No. 9 Summers County held PikeView to nine points in the second and third quarters and went on to a 59-50 win.
Avery Lilly led the Bobcats (11-5) with a game-high 20 points. Abby Persinger scored 16. PikeView got 13 points from Karis Trump and Riley Meadows had 10.
Summers will take on No. 3 Williamstown in the Snyder of Berlin/Utz Snacks Shootout at West Virginia State Wednesday at 11:30 a.m.
BOYS PREP BASKETBALL PikeView 55, Nicholas County 49 PikeView erased a 42-37 deficit and defeated Nicholas County 55-49. Ryan Robinette scored 16 points to lead PikeView, which outscored the Grizzlies 18-7 in the fourth quarter. Elijah Hall added 15 for the Panthers, and Nate Vestal had 12.
Isaiah Miner and Ira Mylott both scored 12 for Nicholas. Trey Stump had 10. The Grizzlies (5-11) will visit Braxton County on Tuesday.
PikeView (7-8) will go to Liberty on Monday..
