1 2 Prayagraj: Mela police have come up with an elaborate traffic management blueprint to regulate flow of devotees on normal and main snan days during Maha Kumbh. Mela police have decided to implement a ‘ No Vehicle Zone ' for three days , including a day before the main snan day, the main snan day itself, and a day after the main snan day. This applies particularly to streets leading to Sangam and routes from parking sites to Sangam, with additional police forces deployed to regulate traffic accordingly.

The three-day ‘No Vehicle Zone' would be implemented for five main snan days including Paush Purnima, Makar Sankranti, Basant Panchmi, Maghi Purmina and Mahashivratri. However, on occasion of Mauni Amavasya snan, the ‘No Vehicle Zone' would be implemented in the city for four days, including two days before Mauni Amavasya, the main Mauni Amavasya snan, and a day after Mauni Amavasya. After dividing entire mela campus into three super zones, including Parade (city), Jhunsi and Arail, mela police have drafted separate entry and exit routes for normal and main snan days.

There would be separate entry and exit routes for passengers coming from roadways buses, trains, and private vehicles. Explaining the traffic management plan, Additional DG (Prayagraj zone) Bhanu Bhaskar told TOI, "Mela police would offer priority to pedestrians moving towards Sangam from seven different parts of the district. A total of 102 parking slots spreading around 1900 hectares have been set up to accommodate around five lakh vehicles.

Moreover, there would be a total of 84 holding areas, including city (45), trans-Ganga (18) and trans-Yamuna (21). Besides, there would be a total of 24 satellite parking spots having all sorts of facilities for the visitors," he added. ADG, meanwhile, said, "Over 1,400 traffic police personnel have been engaged to regulate traffic in and around the mela campus, and there would be a separate traffic plan for Parade, Jhunsi, and Arail zones.

" ADG made it clear that devotees flocking to Sangam to take a holy dip would be following Kali Sadak to move towards Sangam and returning through Triveni Marg. This time, mela police authorities have set up a green corridor on Naval Rai Marg. Moreover, Lal Sadak would be reserved for administrative purposes.

Routes for holding areas and shuttle buses have been finalised, and an emergency plan is also in place. Separate arrangements have been made for health, fire, and jal police to ensure smooth operations. He further explained that four hospitals in the district have been instructed to remain on standby to handle any emergencies.

For parking, barriers will be installed at all major sites. Routes with heavy crowds, such as those leading to Varanasi, Jaunpur, and Ayodhya, are being particularly prepared. Additionally, parking arrangements have been made near Saraswati Hitech on Mirzapur Road.

Holding areas have also been designated at Cheoki, Jhunsi, Prayag and Phaphamau railway stations. Moreover, Mela police authorities have also drafted a traffic movement plan on 28 pontoon bridges. Out of these, 23 would be connecting Parade (city) and Jhunsi, while five pontoon bridges would be connecting Arail and Jhunsi.

Pointedly, the Mela police authorities have focused on interstate/inter-district coordination for vehicular movement along with GRP, railways, roadways and district police to regulate flow of devotees to avoid chaotic situations. Coloured e-rickshaws, including Jhunsi (Blue), Naini (Yellow), Phaphamau (Green), Dhoomanganj (Red), City areas (White), and Mela area (Orange), would be deployed during Maha Kumbh.
